Archive for March 2012
On Sunday 22nd April I will be taking part in the London Marathon 2012.
I have been threatening to run the marathon for years although I have done a number of half marathons. This year will see me reach a milestone which makes my reason to do so in 2012 very special. Eight days after the marathon I will be older than my father was on the day he died and I want to celebrate being alive and hopefully around for a while to come.
Training has been tough yet enjoyable and I am currently up to 19 miles as the map below shows.
I also want to help those who come to Westminster with high expectation that it will lead to a better life for them and often face the bitter disappointment of not being able to find a job, a home or happiness. The Connection at St Martin's in the Fields helps those who are excluded from other services put their lives back on track and I am proud of the work that they do in my Ward, in Westminster, and to help those who come from all over the world.

Campaigning for Back Boris 2012 started in earnest in Soho last night when together with fellow Councillors, JP Floru and Alastair Moss and a contingent from LGBT Tory and CF, we picketed the fundraising event organised by Ken Livingstone at the Shadow Lounge.
We distributed leaflets like those attached to show people Ken's true record on gay issues and entered into a lively debate with many of those attending his function.
Originally it was to be a £2,500 per table fundraiser but, not surprisingly, there were no takers. Eventually it became a £10 a ticket function and was poorly attended. Even Ken himself was unprepared to run the gauntlet of discussions with us and sneaked in via the back entrance to the club to avoid us!
Riddled with Hypocrisy -
Crossrail are undertaking works to the sewer in Davies Street. Please see below for the latest works information.
Crossrail are undertaking works in the Haunch of Venison Yard grout shaft. Please see below for the latest works information.
Crossrail are undertaking utility works on Dering Street as part of the construction for Bond Street Station. Please see below for the latest works information.
There is a current Planning Application to rebuild the corner of Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street following completion of the Crossrail works and the related application to the south to create a new pedestrian piazza linking Charing Cross Road with Sutton Row. The application also anticipates the construction of a brand new theatre (replacing the Astoria which was lost to Crossrail demolition), new retail and offices on the ground and upper floors.
This is a unique site which can form a new gateway to Soho and address some of the problems of narrow dark spaces which have been part of the former buildings on the site.
There are unique challenges to build above a huge underground station which requires large ventilation ducts above ground in order to work. Consequently some of the architectural treatments have had to take this into account.
You may want to comment on this application whilst still under consultation as this will be the unique opportunity to improve this large and important site.
