Christmas lights on Regent Street

Christmas lights on Regent Street has been a London tradition since 1948, when the Regent Street Association first decorated the street with Christmas trees, the lacing of the street with lights marks the official countdown to Christmas day. On Saturday 9 November will see the street light up for Christmas, after a traffic-free day of entertainment and shopping.

This year, the lights will be switched on by actor Ty Burrell and Hollywood film director Rob Minkoff. Live performances from Eliza Doolittle, Leona Lewis and other artists will also be taking place throughout the evening. A fashion show along the street at 3pm, featuring many of the famous Regent Street fashion brands, will also be held.

This year's Christmas lights will be themed around the brand new DreamWorks animation film Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

MOPAC CHALLENGE – 26 NOVEMBER 2013 AT 10.30AM

On 26 November at 10.30am, the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime will be launching a public consultation on the MOPAC Business Crime Strategy to drive down offending and increase businesses confidence in the police. This strategy will help achieve the Mayor’s vision for London to be the safest and best big city in the world by protecting business communities that are the beating heart of a thriving and prosperous UK.

Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held in Committee Room 4 at City Hall and webcast live here.

The MOPAC business crime strategy will focus on the ‘3 Ps’ of Partnerships – establishing better police-business relationships to coordinate local responses to crime, Problems – tackling key crimes like cyber-crime and fraud that affect both businesses and individuals, and Prevention – driving economic growth and identifying opportunities to design-out crime earlier in the planning of new developments.

Key speakers at MOPAC Challenge will include a large central London Business Improvement District, the retailers Next, the Federation of Small Businesses, Westfield Shopping Centres, the Metropolitan Police, the City of London Police, and the National Crime Agency.

A transcript of the last Challenge meeting can be found here.
