Public Consultation on The Hilton London Green Park‏

A public consultation has been launched for the planned refurbishment of The Hilton London Green Park, 27-41 Half Moon Street.

There will be a public exhibition tomorrow, Saturday 23rd April, from 10am to 2pm.

The exhibition will be held at St James’s Piccadilly, St James’s Church, 197 Piccadilly, London W1J 9Ll.

The Dangers of Pedestrianising Oxford Street: My Letter in the @EveningStandard

Sadiq Khan’s pledge to tackle air pollution by pedestrianising Oxford Street is, while well-intentioned, also utterly unworkable. It would have severe implications, with traffic displaced to the roads north and south of Oxford Street, bus routes used by many Londoners disrupted and delivery trucks parked in nearby residential streets.

Mr Khan’s pledge raises more questions than answers. Does the plan include Regent Street? How would he circumvent one of the main east-west thoroughfares in the city? Re-routing significant traffic while maintaining our transport routes would require in-depth planning.

Air pollution must be considered a major health issue and finding ways to tackle it, such as bringing forward the Ultra-Low Emission Zone, should be a priority for the new mayor. However, stopping traffic flowing down London’s most famous shopping street is not the answer.

Extending Coach Parking Bays in Park Lane

Previous readers will remember that in November Transport for London (TfL) consulted on proposals to introduce an additional 45 metres of coach parking on the north side of Park Lane.

Of the responses received by TfL, 65% were either fully or partially in favour of the scheme.

The extension of the coach parking bays is due to take place by the end of Spring.

Possible Disruption this Weekend from a Demonstration

This weekend there is a planned demonstration which may have an adverse effect on businesses and local residents.

The People’s Assembly March will be holding a march and rally through Central London this Saturday, 16th April.
 
The plans involve the protesters assembling at Gower Street at 1300 hours, marching through Holborn, Charing Cross Road, and arriving at Trafalgar Square.

Although the demonstration will only skirt West End Ward, there could still be affects on the area, including on traffic.
 
It is estimated that there will be approximately 10,000 protesters in attendance, and the police have issued advice for businesses and residents here. 
 
Throughout the day the Metropolitan Police will be providing updates via CCTV Radio Link, through their twitter channel @MetPoliceEvents and through email.

Investing in the future of Westminster

Westminster City Council recently launched the second year of its three-year City for All programme.



The plans, agreed by all members of the council, include getting even more long term unemployed residents into work, starting work on Westminster’s first University Technical College, building more high quality and affordable homes, rewarding volunteers, and investing in new sports and leisure facilities.

Improvements in Regent Street

There are due to be improvements to the public realm along Regent Street as part of the ‘City for All’ initiative.

As part of the project there will be new paving and additional pedestrian facilities and drainage.

There will also be a new dual use loading bay on the southern footway of Regent Street outside Swallow Street, which will aim to provide a clear route for buses to pull in and out of the bus stops.

The cost of the improvements will be fully covered by The Crown Estate, and the proposed improvements are outlined in the diagram below.
