Update on Berwick Street Market
Soho’s iconic Berwick Street Market will be given a new lease of life under plans by Conservative-run Westminster Council
Local West End Conservative Councillors, Paul Church, Jonathan Glanz and Glenys Roberts called for a halt to the initial idea to bring in an external market operator to take over the running of the market on behalf of the Council.
Councillors Church, Glanz and Roberts asked for local residents and businesses to be consulted before any changes took place and met with the Cabinet Member to make a case on behalf of the local Soho community.
Following this consultation and discussion, the decision was taken by the new Cabinet Member for Business, Culture & Heritage, Councillor Robert Davis MBE DL, to halt the tendering process and continue the Council’s management of the market - with new staff allocated to ensure its future success.
Your local Councillors Paul Church, Jonathan Glanz and Glenys Roberts, explained: “We are delighted that we have managed to secure a promising future for our iconic Berwick Street Market, which is so important to our local Soho community".
Cabinet Member for Business, Culture & Heritage, Councillor Robert Davis MBE DL said: "I am convinced that Berwick Street Market can, once again, become a thriving market, adding to the vitality of Soho as the jewel in the golden crown of our great City of Westminster".
